Mai come nel caso del prossimo film di Tim Burton, Alice nel Paese delle Meraviglie, si sono rincorse così tante notizie riguardanti le tecniche di ripresa e di realizzazione: il che fa presagire che quello del visionario regista americano sarà probabilmente un altro film rivoluzionario, che forse aprirà la strada a nuove forme di produzione di opere in 3D. Finora si sapeva che il film sarà girato sia in esterni che in teatro di posa, che prevederà l’utilizzo del performance capture per animare certi personaggi e che la trasformazione in 3D avverrà in fase di post-produzione, grazie ad una nuova tecnica.
Ora le parole di Alan Rickman rivelano che probabilmente verrà utilizzata anche la tecnica dello stop-motion (quella di Nightmare Before Christmas, tanto per intenderci): “Il film sarà una mescolanza tra animazione, riprese dal vivo e stop motion e quindi è veramente molto complicato”, ha dichiarato Rickman. “Non credo che sia mai stato fatto niente di simile prima.”
Rickman ha anche raccontato come verranno realizzati due personaggi, il suo Brucaliffo e la Regina di Cuori di Helena Bonham Carter: il primo sarà creato con il performance capture, animando digitalmente il viso di Rickman, precedentemente scansionato; la seconda avrà invece una testa ingrandita 3 volte più del normale e un make up stravagante.
